Get Fit for God's Purpose

March 30, 20254 min read

“For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8, NKJV)

Dear Friend,

In continuation to pursuing our healthy habits, let’s look into getting fit for God’s purpose.

Are you ready to pursue this goal? You may think you're not and that’s fine because I was there myself, struggling to get out of bed, to get through life on a daily basis, and fitness goals seemed too far-fetched for me.

But faith in Jesus changed every area of my life—He transformed me inside out. He taught me how to be a faithful steward of everything He has entrusted me with which includes my car, my finances, my relationships, and even my physical body.

Friend, God is interested in every aspect of your life. 3 John 2 says, Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

God’s love and grace is for every area of our lives including prosperity of our souls and our physical bodies.

Today, I want to admonish you how to be healthy in your physical body in preparation of walking out the God ordained purpose for your life. One of the primary ways we can do so is by exercising and strength training.

Some of the benefits of physical exercise (with strength training) are:

  • Increased muscle strength and toning

  • Aid in metabolism and fat loss

  • Increase in bone density and reduced risk of osteoporosis

  • Increased levels of energy

  • More clarity of mind

  • Reduces stress through release of feel-good hormones like endorphins

  • Many others

You may wonder how you could possibly incorporate exercise in your busy life, or you may think you don’t have the ability or the strength to do so. Can I encourage you that you can't do this in your own strength, but you can do this with Jesus.

2 Peter 1:3 says, “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.”

By His power, God's given you everything you need for this life!

Everything in the Christian life is received by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). God gives us His grace which is His divine ability not only for our salvation but to walk out our lives in Him in every area.

When we decide to sow into our future, into our purpose, into our health, and invite Jesus into the same, His grace becomes sufficient for us to do so. We only need to release our faith in acting it out.

I do not show up at the gym by own wisdom or by my own strength. Every time I tried doing it in my own strength in the past, I failed. But now, as I lean into His grace and strength, I find it easy to work out and even enjoyable! I've also seen that the days I'm so exhausted and relying on God the most, are the days I have the best workouts.

Why? Because God’s grace empowers us when we're using our faith!

And that’s how Jordan, one of our Fitness Journey members, testifies too. She says, “God's grace empowers me to workout consistently.”

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27, “I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”

Like Paul, if we take the first step to discipline our bodies, to show up to exercise, I can promise you that God will show up and show off through us!

I do want to emphasize here that exercise and strength training is NOT for vanity, but to finish our race strongly. We can be like Moses, not abated in our natural strength in our old age (Deut. 34:7), and crossing the finish line strong!

So now, if you're encouraged and motivated to embark on a lifestyle of staying fit and healthy, I invite you into this beautiful journey with God. Let Him show Himself strong in your health and body!
