Wisdom: A Tree of Life

January 29, 20243 min read

Dear Friend,

Did you know that you're a success in God's eyes? It's true! God loves you and He is so pleased with you right where you are. God isn't asking you to change anything about yourself.

We don't spend time with God in order for Him to like us and be pleased with us. We spend time with God so that we grow and become more like Him.

As we spend time with God and grow in our faith, we become more like Him, and it causes our lives to change and transform for the better!

For many years, I had a hard time being consistent. I cancelled appointments, showed up late to meetings, and never stuck with goals that I wanted to accomplish. The more I grew in my relationship with God, the more I began to understand that this was not a godly character trait. The Bible says, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). God always show up for us and He is always loving towards us. He is consistent.

I realized that I needed to make some adjustments in my life. I began by asking God to help me. He helped me keep commitments that I made to myself like cleaning my home consistently and choosing healthier lifestyle options.

As I showed up for myself, my confidence began to grow and I stopped feeling shame, guilt, and condemnation for my lifestyle choices. I began to feel good about my life and as a result, I naturally chose better options for myself because I immediately saw growth from my new choices. It became easier for me to show up early for meetings and be there for friends when I told them I would be.

God's wisdom is different than the wisdom of the world. The only way to grow in godly wisdom is by reading the Bible. The Book of Proverbs is full of godly wisdom, and Proverbs 3 is one of my most favorite chapters in the entire Bible. It speaks of godly wisdom and how it adorns you with favor, long life, and peace. Look at these verses from Proverbs 3:

"[Wisdom] is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared to her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retains her" (vv. 15-18).

Godly wisdom adds to your life; it does not take away. As we model God and His character, our life begins to change and bear tremendous fruit.

When we choose to honor God and make Him a priority in life, He will help us and strengthen us in every other area of our life.

Today, I'm reminding myself that greatness and success don’t come from one big decision in life. It comes from small, consistent, intentional decisions that we make every day.

Here’s 3 simple keys to help you develop godly wisdom and see growth in your life:

1. Start by setting aside time with God. Pray, read the Bible, and listen to His voice.

2. God will give you wisdom and show you next steps to take in your life. When He does, ask Him to help you accomplish them.

3. Repeat this process each day!

I encourage you to choose to acknowledge God and your relationship with Him daily. As a result, you will receive wisdom and grace to be consistent and succeed in everything you do!

God has helped me overcome so many battles in my life by this simple process. Being with God and developing intimacy with Him is always a win-win relationship!
